Headkandy Hair Extensions UK (Hot toffee light brown)

Headkandy Hair Extensions UK Review (Hot toffee light brown)

For over a year and a half now I have swapped my natural thin boring hair for a luscious head of locks one can easily take in and out every night clip in hair extensions I started of last year with a fullhead of “1st lady” hair extensions from a local hair shop. They where no well known brand, however they where the best I have and probably will ever have again. I kept these extensions for well over 12months bearing in mind this included dying them 3 times, curling then straightening them every other day. I took no special care of them (ashamed to say) but they did me proud. Referring back to my L’Oreal post it was that last traumatic experience that killed them.
Spending a whole month researching desperately to find some extensions better than the last I opted for Headkandys full set. With 180g of hair and 10 pieces in hot toffee light brown I received:
5" x 2pc (1 clip)
4" x 5pc (2 clips)
6" x 2pc (3 clips)
8" Quad weft (4 clips)
I have been wearing the 4 clip quad weft (below)on its own as the full head set is too heavy and thick for me. The quad weft alone is now £26.20 where I could have saved myself £80 for the full head set.
(This is not my own image just an example of the quad weft in another shade)

I had high expectations. My was I wrong.

The first time I wore my extensions I had already discovered the problem. The hair itself was so thick and heavy, which is normally a good thing for extensions made it rigid and unnatural. I first wore them un-tampered with and no heat styling. It was extremely noticeable from my natural hair as mine would wave and move however the extensions would stay stiff and not mix very well with my own hair. After an hour of having them in I was having to constantly brush them as they would become like a sheet of hair very unlike my own.

Main problems
·         Curls dropping out shortly after styling (tried with or without holding products)
·         Straightening gives a very unnatural sheet effect of the extensions
·         Severe knotting with the finer pieces of hair causing snaps
·         Breakages throughout the lengths of the hair.

I have styled these extensions many ways however I am still unhappy. Paying over £100 for these I expected way more. I think they are a very chemically processed unnatural quality of hair, far too thick and blunt.

This picture is off my long lasting 1st lady extensions which have now been discontinued. 18 inch full head and so easily styled.

The very first time I had worn my Headkandy extenions and I was pleased at first. However the problems started after an hour or so of wearing them.

This picture was taken with my sheet like Headkandy extensions. It was the windiest possible evening on the beach however the extensions didn't budge.

L’Oreal Preference Mousse Absolue Natural Dark Brunette 400 (LATE & LONG WINDED BUT ALL TRUTHFUL)

For the last 6 months I had been just about coping with my wishy-washy colour id been left with after a few years of not taking care of my locks. I’d had the ends chopped a few weeks back and I was contemplating between visiting the hairdressers or box dying back to dark brown.

Box dying my hair has never been easy as the very reliable for others ‘nice&easy’ ‘L’Oreal’ and ‘Garnier’ never seemed to do well for my hair. But then the uproar hit for the new preference mousse in a gold can that you could re-use.. and I was sold.
Due to previous experiences I was wary of going back to my luxurious dark brown after the many accidents of crossing the border of black. Doing my research I read up on some reviews and tips from other bloggerellas and people seemed to be enjoying it. That’s all except one. I came across one home hair dyer http://photo-jenn-ic.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/loreal-mousse-absolue-or-absolute-mess.html who mentioned a plastic like residue left on her hair and made it rather greasy. I gave it some thought and as I’ve never been one to suffer from greasy hair I thought I’d be fine. So off I trotted on my lunch break to pick up my new hair colour.
Excited to get home and get that colour flowing I set up my little station, newspaper over dressers and floors to save my mother the stained wood flooring  horror.
Following all instructions my hairline was first to take the hit, roots shortly to follow. Then the rest of my hair took fall. The size and product was very sparing and so it should be for a reusable hair dye so I went on to attack my clip in human hair extensions. I’d just finished the last one as the mousse cap started to hiss.. I was out.
One full mid length head and 20 clips worth of hair extensions, thank god id done it.

A good scrub leaning over the bath the mucky brown water was draining down the plughole but not actually running any clearer. After long minutes of scrubbing I jumped in the shower to give my scalp a rest and started on the extensions.  After skipping back and forth between the two I was getting horrible thick dark clumps of dye getting stuck under my talons they call nails. Then when I had a scrub behind my ears it seemed to get worse. There was a thick tar like product build up behind my ears which took numerous amounts of shampoo to get it to budge.
I’d had enough, what was supposed to be a quick treatment had turned into over an hour and a halves work.
Went onto do a quick blow-dry to check that the colour wasn’t as disastrous as the ritual itself. I was relieved, not to black not to red, the colour was perfect and the extensions to match. But as I continued to blow dry I had been left with a wax like coating covering every piece of hair. My not normally greasy hair was covered in a greasy layer almost that off an afro Caribbean sheen spray product. Sure it was shinning but not in a way any girl would want their hair to shine. It’s now been two days since my grease up and my hair is finally starting to feel like normal, however my extensions haven’t been so lucky to survive this.

Now torn between a gorgeous colour I like and a product I don’t want near my hair again I’m back on the quest for the perfect box home hair dye.

My first post...EVER

So a little about me to kick start things -

I'm a girl like any other who loves anything sparkly, glittery or probably expensive.
Since my young days of Maybelline's terrible dream matte mousse and lengthening mascara I have been addicted to make-up.
A decade now I have travelled through the make-up world and on the way I stopped off at beauty school. 2 years of hard work...but I wouldn't change it for the world.

A little while later I then made my entrance to the beauty floor… Yves Saint Laurent to be exact… I went for the job at Yves Saint Laurent simply because the ideal YSL girl had been a girl after my own heart. The dark locks the red lips, smokey eyes & killer heels. However after getting the role I realized this was more a fantasy than reality for me.  I enjoyed the colours, the dramatic looks, pigments and the finishes of pretty much every other make-up brand other than my own. All except for those beautiful Yves Saint Laurent lipsticks.

I'm now off the beauty counter and into the office, working a 9-5 trying to compensate for my shopping addiction. Make-up is now back in my leisure time, a few weddings and photo shoots here and there..

So after rambling on for a while now you know a little about me, and now I'm dedicating a whole blog full of it. What I've picked up along the way and just my favourite things in general. Pretty much make-up, clothes, shoes, handbags, pretty packaging and glittery anything’s…

Enjoy
Love Lilly
